Registered Massage Therapy

What is Registered Massage Therapy?

Typical Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on mobilization of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health.

Our team collaborates on client care through mentorship to enhance communication to support our diverse client base. In addition, we emphasize injury prevention and performance-focused care to assess and treat dysfunction before it becomes an issue.

Benefits of Massage Therapy?

Registered Massage therapy helps to optimize the health of the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems by reducing tension and improving fluid mechanics within the body to improve and maintain physical function, improve relaxation and affect overall well being. Whether it's treatment or relaxation, our therapists tailor the session to suit individual needs.

Who is Massage Therapy for?

Anyone looking to improve their overall athletic performance, tissue health, mental wellbeing, relaxation, and recovery from injury and dysfunction.

What should I expect during my first RMT appointment?

Our Registered Massage Therapists conduct a subjective assessment to understand the goals and therapeutic targets for intervention. Hands-on soft tissue work is a hallmark of Massage therapy, but our therapists may also employ advanced physical assessment and treatment techniques to provide an efficient treatment outcome.

FAQs

Do you only provide sports type massage? No! Our therapists assess each individual client's needs and provide treatment accordingly. Whether that need is relaxation or treatment and problem-solving a specific issue. We encourage our clients to communicate their expectations and feedback in terms of pressure, areas of tension, etc.

What should I wear to my appointment? During your visit, we ask you to bring a pair of shorts and a t-shirt to ensure comfort during the assessment.

Do you direct bill? Yes! During your first appointment please provide us with your extended health benefit information and we will be happy to submit to your insurance provider on your behalf. Will my therapist bench me from my favourite activities? Not necessarily. We want to keep people doing the things that move them. Whether it be their professional activity, strumming a guitar, or playing their sport. We use innovative techniques to identify and re-program dysfunctional biomechanics to get our clients back to their chosen activity as soon as possible. We understand how much exercise improves the quality of life and make modifications with that in mind.

Will my therapist use extensive modalities as part of the treatment plan? No. We are a hands-on clinic, meaning we don't rely on passive modalities to deliver care. The only modality we have on-site is electroacupuncture (when tolerated), which has a robust evidence base. In addition, our treatments include joint mobilizations, soft tissue work, motor re-patterning, exercise therapy, and functional movement.
